Message	You can remove it, put it on a vice on a bench, apply +12v to it and you should see it spin and pop up. If it doesn't do one of those to its probably toast. One thing to check is the casing around the starter gear. If it gets bent it can hold the gear down and just needs to be bent back to allow the gear to pop up.
